Al-Murshid Al-Mu’in, translated as “The Reliable Guide” is one of the core curriculum texts of the Maliki school. Until today, it is virtually impossible to be considered a student of the Maliki school unless one has studied and mastered the contents of Al-Murshid Al-Mu’in, often referred to as Matn ibn ‘Ashir or ‘Ibn ‘Ashir for short. In 314 lines, Imam Abdul Wahid ibn ‘Ashir managed to fit in the principle matters that are necessary for every Muslim to know (fard ‘ayn) in matters of creed, worship, and spirituality.
